[Translation] MINA January 2015, Masuda Takahisa – “Massu Styling” Volume 4

This Month’s theme is: Mid-Winter warm Color.

To start with, for a winter coordinate I really like to use layering and different fabrics to add an extra something to the outfit. The theme this time is “Winter Colors”, so I was really wavering on whether or not to show a flashy space pattern down Jacket, but I picked this DISCOVERED Red checked, fleece rider jacket1 as the main item instead. I fell in love with this piece at first sight (again) because I thought with just this one piece I could mix prints without having to layer it with anything else. For outerwear2, color and patterns require courage to wear so people normally choose basic outerwear, but I really love and can’t resist this mix of different fabrics so this is an exception.

I didn’t hesitate at all with deciding this t-shirt for the inside of the jacket. In all honestly, I came up with it off the top of my head, but if you think about it the shirt maybe links the coloring of the outfit. Normally I would just wear my thin blue, kind of oversized pants for the bottom of the outfit, but this time I decided to turn on the “checked pattern switch” and spontaneously tied a check shirt around my waist with it.4    I would want to a terrace of a nice café if I went out and about in this coordinate. And, if said cafe gives you a blanket, that would basically be incorporating it into this coordinate!  (LOL)  No matter what, I am attracted to check patterned items. I like it so much that someday I want to do a head to toe check coordinate, let’s do it soon! Please look forward to it!

Also, its been fun having my hair black after a long time. Even with the same outfit coordinate you look different and the types of clothes you choose and that suit you change too.

What in my bag today

1. This Alligator Key chain that liked and bought immediately. I always have it attached to something of mine.
2. Tegoshi has been massaging the sole if his foot with a golfball so I started to do the same.
3. I thought this pouch would be good for holding hard candy in so I bought it at a general store.

Translators Notes:

1. He uses the term: ボアライダース, “Boa Riders” for the Jacket and I asked my Japanese friend and looked it up online and this was the best translation I can find and we could come up with,  a fleece rider jacket.

2. Outerwear in Japanese means Jackets or Coats.

4.  He  means he tied a checked patterned shirt over his pants that he normally wears, like you see some Japanese idols wear sometimes.

Translation: Ray October, 2013 – Earth Music&Ecology x Ray x NEWS Dress Collaboration Part 1- Koyama and Tegoshi Cross Talk

Tegoshi and Koyama Special Talk:

They both declare that they like dresses, but they have different tastes! Starting from their tastes in dresses, we asked them about their “ideal woman image”.

Let’s start from “buying a cute dress”:

Tegoshi: I love the style of girls wearing dresses!

Koyama: All men like it don’t they! Individually what do you like? Will it be similar? Let’s say it together at the same time!

(at the same time)

Tegoshi: Plain

Koyama: Flower Pattern. Oh! Totally different!

Tegoshi: Personally, even though there is a lot of Rock-like style, I like a softer feeling. A pink dress with the girls hair twisted back is my ideal.

Koyama: Patterned fabrics are really difficult, but in winter and fall for a cool, composed feeling, flower print is easy to challenge isn’t it? If I went to pick up my girlfriend and she appeared in a flower print dress I would be really excited! I would totally get that she showed up being fashionable.

Tegoshi: I also want her to wear a dress on a date too! My ideal is meeting after class is over at school and if she was wearing a pink dress that would be the best!

Koyama: Because Tegoshi has a rock taste in clothes, it’s probably better for balance for the girl to wear a plain style right? If she skillfully pairs a belt and accessories with it, it’s fantastic.

Tegoshi: A bit high-waisted, it hits at the waistline nicely and has a good balance.

Koyama: Would you go shopping together [with the girl]?

Tegoshi: If it was a girl that I liked, I would. I also like just hanging out together. But, if we went around to lots of stores and in the end she says that she wants to go back to the first store, I couldn’t do that! LOL

Koyama: Just like our Masuda right! LOL What about items to pair with the dress? With a flower print dress, pairing a plain cardigan or a leather jacket is cute isn’t it?

Tegoshi: In the fall and winter, something like bare legs with short boots is cute isn’t it? Your legs show with a dress, so to wear the dress you should to adjust it to your own body type and can refine yourself, right?

Koyama: Because guys will definitely notice girls wearing a dress! You shouldn’t be embarrassed when you get noticed because knowing that guys notice you wearing dress will make you prettier!

Tegoshi: As expected, appearance really is important. That love can begin from fashion really is true! If a girl wears clothes that she loves, I would want to talk to her and know more about her inner side as well.

Koyama: Also, when a girl wears a one piece, her character seems more feminine than normal.

Tegoshi: Wearing a feminine dress is a special right as a woman that should be used to your advantage. I want you to use it to your advantage and your self-confidence to increase. If we had more girls doing that, guys will have to work harder to be more fashionable too! In order to get love, why don’t you first try starting with buying a cute dress?

Koyama: Those who haven’t tried wearing a print dress yet, I would love for you to try to this fall. If you are aiming for an older guy, I want you to be able to catch him with a fashionable print dress. If it were me, I would be totally caught! LOL

This month’s theme: “Knits for various daily wear”

It’s only the third volume, but I was given knits as a theme already and and impatiently declared “I don’t have any knits!” But… when I checked my closet I had some unexpectedly! (LOL) In any case, I brought a bunch of different kinds of knits and styled the same hat and pants combination with them in three different ways. Which one do you guys like the most?

The knits are from the brands (the top of the page down): Maison Martin Margiela, Sasquatchfabrix., and LABRAT.

The Margiela Knit is a silhouette that I normally don’t choose, but I fell in love with it at first sight in the store. Out of all the clothes  I have it’s the most “Honor’s student”-like. I began to think I want to wear knit a lot more after seeing the shot taken of me in this piece ! For a date, this knit would be good. Yup.

When you first see the striped knit you might think it’s kind of  gaudy looking, but I really like the shape of the turtleneck and dolman sleeve combination.

I think the detail on Paisley knit is interesting. I would wear it on a casual day to go meet with a friend.

To me, knit items aren’t as much of a daily item as sweat is, but wearing it all now like this was nice! I’ll try to wear more knit now. Also, the hat that I am wearing now I wore a long time ago on Music Station! It restricted by the season, but every year I wear it a ton. I wonder if anyone noticed??

Knit Companions

I began collecting badges by influence of a stylist. Whenever I go into a clothing shop or a general goods store and see a cute badge I snatch it up, especially animals I probably like the most. One day I think I want to try making a piece of clothing filled with those badges.

[Translation] MINA November 2014, Masuda Takahisa – “Massu Styling” Volume 2

This Month’s Theme is: Leather and Sweatshirt material, “Rough Style” Outing!

For this volume, I was given the themes “Sweatshirt Material outing” and “Casual Rider Jacket” from the editing department to try. I love both, so I decided to combine them! Rather than a leather rider jacket with skinny pants and boots, I styled a loose base with the rider jacket instead.

The instant I saw this Jean Paul Gaultier leather rider jacket in the store, I bought it. This was something sold for spring/summer, but since it is easy to pair and I like the light thickness of the jacket, I can wear it during the autumn and winter as well!

For example, if you go out to eat in this style and take off your jacket in the restaurant. When you leave and put the jacket back on, the feel of the outfit becomes different. I think that is so cool! If you had met at the restaurant and didn’t realize that the other person was wearing a rider jacket, it’s like “Wow! They’re wearing a rider jacket! (LOL)” 1

It’s really awesome if a girl pairs a dress with a rider jacket. From any angle, it’s cute!

The set-up2 that is under the jacket is a layered tank top style that I have been into. I have been into wearing to long tank tops that you can see the hem sticking out of the bottom of the jacket, if the base is  a t-shirt and pants combination as the base. Finding items like this tank top makes me really happy!

Fashion Companions

  1. Givenchy Aquamarine  was really popular when I was in middle school. I bought this for the first time in a while and I still love this scent after many months and years.
  2. This was a present from a close friend. I love towels, so I was really happy to revive it.
  3. I recieved a pair of sunglasses from the same brand before and I liked them so I bought another pair of them in a different style. BUT, one day when I was organizing my sunglasses I realized that I had 2 of the same design (LOL)

*Translators Notes:

  1. This paragraph was meant to covey that he likes that the feel of how the outfit changes when you take the jacket on and off.
  2. A set-up is an outfit that the top and the bottom are the same material and print and it is popular clothing for men and women here recently in Japan.

[Translation] MINA October 2014, Masuda Takahisa – “Massu Styling” Volume 1

This month’s theme is: “Simple Monotone”

This is the first installment this series, and I have been put in charge of what I will wear! (LOL). A lot of people probably have an image of me wearing clothes that are kind of all over the place1, but I actually also like simple clothing, like the outfit with the hat on the left… but simple items paired together with simple shapes/ shillioutes to don’t really match. What’s best is an item that is simple, but the size is big or it has something that reflects that person’s personality, right? The timing of when to wear a knit vest can be difficult, so up until now I would have gone with sweatshirt material, but this knit vest has a rough texture and the arms are short sleeved, so I bought it at first sight. I also thought pairing it with these RAF SIMONS pants was also nice. The long sleeve shirt I love so much that I have it in different colors and in shirt sleeve too. On a day where you wear sweats on both top and bottom, I like to wear something like leather boots with it, basically pairing something simple together one nice item…..the hat that I am wearing is also like that! It’s something that I would want to wear to go shopping around in, rather than just for stroll around the neighborhood.

On the right page is the check set-up2. I like that even though it is one item together, it isn’t boring. Layering the non-sleeve parka over it is normal for me. On a casual day when going out to eat a meal or something, I wear something like this a lot.

If girls wore monotone, a simple T-shirt with a scoop neck neckline is really infatuating to me! (LOL) Pairing it with some black skinny pants is ideal. Wearing monotone together on a date is perfectly okay. Wearing flower print together is kind of embarrassing though… (LOL)

Well then, next time I will also come prepared with lots of clothes as well!

Fashion Companions

On the right is a label maker that you type letter by letter and make a sticker with. It has a really analogue feeling to it and I’m really into sticking them to places like my cellphone, etc.
On the left are these 3 sibling Hermes bangles. Bangles are also an indispensable item for me.

*Translators Notes:

1. He means that people have the image of him wearing lots of patterns and colors together in one outfit, thus “all over the place clothing”

2. A set-up is an outfit that the top and the bottom are the same material and print and it is popular clothing for men and women here recently in Japan.

Quick Translation – Popolo September, 2014: “Naked NEWS” Questions from the Members

I really enjoyed these questions, so I decided to translate this small part of the NEWS interview in the September 2014 Edition of Popolo. This is a first for me on my blog, but I hope you all enjoy it!

Questions to Tegoshi from the Members:

1.  From Koyama: “Tell us your current hair color in English”

Purple and Cherry  (*Written in Katakana*), though I have been asked this many times already! LOL

2. From Shige: “Tell us 1 memory from Brazil!”

Watching the World Cup in person! It was really like “I REALLY have seen my dream?!”.

3. From Massu: “Recently you bought an electronic item?”

I bought wireless headphones! Even though I have many headphones already, I bought them anyway…

Questions to Shige from the Members:

1. From Koyama “You have been into Flower print pants lately?”

Yes, I am certainly into it right now! LOL Flower patters are this year’s trend, so I have been into it!

2. From Massu: “Have you bought any clothes recently?”

“I bought a yellow cardigan, but Koyama asked me “Are you supporting Brazil (in the World Cup)?” and I wasn’t able to wear it anymore LOL

3. From Tegoshi: “What Fish have you caught?”

“I have caught large Mackerel and Hair tail! You can cook a lot with Mackerel and it was very delicious. Do you want to come fishing with me soon?”

Questions to Massu from the Members:

1. From Koyama: “You changed your hair to red! It really does suit you doesn’t it?”

I did change to red! I also think it suits me! LOL Koyama should also try red hair!”

2. From Shige: “Have you gotten used to being on “Ippuku!” yet?”

Little by little I have gotten used to it and each time I am able to do it while having fun! Speaking of which, Shige have you watched?

3. From Tegoshi: “Is red hair okay?”

It is perfectly okay! Occasionally I am asked this because I went to black hair. LOL

(*Translators Note: This question is referring to Ippuku and him changing his hair to black/ brown when he first started the show in March, but then he changed his hair to red. He also mentioned changing his hair color in one of the Tegomassu concerts as well for the TV show)

Questions to Koyama from the Members:

1. From Shige: “Recently you have always been wearing  flower patterned Set-ups (an outfit that is the same print on top and bottom), are you into those recently?”

I don’t always wear it. Occasionally I wear it but it’s basically every time I meet with Shige that I seem to be wearing it. But yes, I have been into them though LOL

2. Question from Massu: “Recently you have picked a fight?”

Why me and fighting?? I don’t know if I have been involved in a fight or not, but I haven’t picked a fight though.

3. Question from Tegoshi: “When did you do it?”

Yesterday I did it…. lots of muscle training!…..But what is this talk? Let’s actually have a bit more of a conversation! LOL

(Translator’s note: I think Tegoshi was playing around and feeding off of Massu’s question before and asking about when did he fight? and Koyama responds with a silly answer playing off of the やった that Tegoshi asked 、which means ”do” it. So basically Koyama responded back with something he did do, at a time.)
