Translators Notes:

This was my translation of “Have a nice day” from her “Just LOVE” Album. Please note that Japanese is my second language and this translation is just my interpretation of the lyrics based on my knowledge of the Japanese and English language. If you have any suggestions to better it, please comment below! Also, I do not own the rights to these song lyrics.

I had such a fun time translating this really light and fun song! I love Nishino Kana’s lyrics and this song may seem childish, but if you look a bit deeper I see a song that is motivating and positive, telling you to work hard but don’t be too hard on yourself sometimes. Self-love I guess?

Translation – Mina April 2015 , Masuda Takahisa – “Massu Styling” Volume 7

massu-styilg-volume-7This month’s theme is “Wearing white in Spring”

Typically a black and white base is common, but in contrast this was my first time being told to go with white and I wasn’t sure what to do.

The result was not all over white, but I thought that warming it up a bit by paring it with some brown would be good. I paired a long white shirt with a mesh top with goat hair as the focal point, and the bottoms are SISE flower print shorts. The pants and the shirt’s “Haramaki” 1 like design I have also been into recently. Besides the top, the shorts, hat, and sneakers I styled all brown. I really wanted the sneakers to be brown, but it ended up being beige instead. It’s a new item, but it really is my personal item…. LOL I think that this styling came out really well and I am very satisfied, but what do you guys think?

For styling white for a lady, I think wearing a long blouse is nice. I think wearing a long blouse like an outerwear is really fashionable. Kind of off topic (*while looking a the staff*) but a girl swing a button back a shirt that was about to come off is really nice. I am totally caught by that~…..!

Speaking of today’s styling, since the start of this column this is one took me the longest time putting it together and deciding what to do, but it was the fastest photo-shoot. It was totally done in an instant! LOL But, I will do my best next time as well!

Translator’s notes:

1- Haramaki is referring to a thing that you wear around you stomach in Japan to keep warm during the winter. Click here to see what it is.

Translation – Mina March 2015 , Masuda Takahisa – “Massu Styling” Volume 6

masus-styling-volume-6This Month’s Theme is “Loveable Hats and Sunglasses”

Massu’s popular column! This month’s styling is a close up on the fashion essential: accessories.

I love both sunglasses and hats and have tons of them. There are not many days that I don’t wear them. Like today, wearing the same necklace and T-shirt but changing the hat and sunglasses gives a different feeling is really interesting. What version do you like best, everyone?

  1. Hats in a “Mischievous” way

I don’t normally pile them on top of eachother though (LOL) I picked out a bunch and brought them for the photo-shoot. When having a flashy-clothing kind of day, a flashy cap is a must!

  1. Pop on a Flight Cap!

There are lots of gaunchy patches on it. With this the military style it also becomes “pop-like” I would hope! LO

  1. Wearing Heart Sunglasses Seriously

These are Jeremy Scott Heart sunglasses. I thought the beaded design was interesting and I bought it at first sight.

  1. Color Coordination

This pair of colored sunglasses is something that I wouldn’t normally wear personally, but trying them on I think it looks nice. I like how New Era sticks to their brand concept.

  1. To Open

The black lenses can both be opened and you can also put clear lenses in them as well, but because it looked strange during the photo-shoot it was rejected. Thus, you see the closed version.

  1. Very First Round Glasses

Round Glasses really don’t go well on me, but when I “met” these glasses it was a total “Finally!” moment. Using the broadness and the height of the hat, I tried creating a worldly, sophisticated look.

  1. I’m interested in…. Part 1

Because there are small pom poms stuck to the glasses, you can’t see out of them. About 10 of them have fallen off too. “If they are sitting in your glasses storage area, it would be really exciting!” I thought and I bought them.

  1. I’m interested in…. Part 2

I “met” this hat in a used clothing store. “THIS” I thought. I haven’t worn it outside the house even once, but I have worn it while watching TV (LOL).

  1. I’m a Playboy!

Vintage Playboy. The design was around even when it was out of style, but it came back around and I really do think it’s very cool.

Massu-styling-vol-5

This Month’s theme is: “Adult-Like” Coat.

Massu’s popular “My clothing style” column. This time, the main item is a lovely trench coat. A well arranged style will be shown!

Going along with the theme, this time I played around with this DIOR HOMME trench coat. A trench coat with black shorts is a definite style for me. For girls, I think wearing a trench coat with a check-patterned skirt is cute. Ah, but pairing it with neutral colored pants is also cute! Because the coat is an A-line silhouette, I think having a tight bottom-half is also good.

I wanted to go with a “basketball” feel so I pared it with a T-shirt, sweatpants-shorts, and a headband. I used to be apart of the Basketball club, so I have lots of headbands from that time. But using them in coordinating outfits was recent. I thought about using a red cap with this outfit, but in the end because I wanted it as a “basketball mix”, I used the headband instead. That, and the feeling of the basketball pants. I like the baggy style, and I have lots of them! In public I have a sporty style, and because I see it around a lot is probably also why I wanted to go with a basketball style this time. When talking about “sporty style”, there are lots of people that wear caps or knit caps in a loose style, it’s awesome! I also like going with this style.

massu-styling-jan-2015

This Month’s theme is: Mid-Winter warm Color.

Massu’s popular “My clothing style” column. This time with the cold winter, he brings us the theme warmth of “color”!

To begin with, for winter coordinate, layering and different fabrics I really like to use to add an extra something. The theme this time is “Winter Colors”, so I was really wavering whether to show a flashy space pattern down Jacket, but I put the DISCOVERED Red Checked, fleece rider jacket1 as the lead instead. Not just that I will wear each item, but also thought laying them together and the different materials would be fun, so again I also bought these at first sight. For outerwear2, color and patterns require courage so people normally choose basic outerwear, but I really love and can’t resist the mix of different fabrics so this was an unexpectedly good choice for me!

I didn’t hesitate at all with deciding this t-shirt for the inner3.. In all honestly, I came up with it off the top of my head, but if you think about it, the shirt links the coloring of the outfit probably. Normally I would just wear  my thin blue kind of oversized pants for the bottom of the outfit, but this time I decided to turn on the “checked pattern switch”,  and spontaneously tied a check shirt around my waist with it.4   If you went out wearing this coordinate, I would want to go to the terrace of a nice café. Say that cafe gives you a blanket, it’s like I would incorporate that into my outfit coordination! LOL No matter what, I am attracted to check patterned items. I like it so much that someday I want to do a head to toe check coordinate, so coming up let’s do it! Please look forward to it!

Also, my hair is black after a long time, so it’s been fun. Even with the same outfit coordinate you get a different impression and also the types of clothes you choose and the types of clothes that suit you change too.

Translators Notes:

1. He uses the term: ボアライダース, “Boa Riders” for the Jacket and I asked my Japanese friend and looked it up online and this was the best translation I can find and we could come up with,  a fleece rider jacket.

2. Outerwear in Japanese means Jackets or Coats.

3. Inner is the opposite of Outerwear, meaning what he is wearing inside the jacket or coat.

4.  He  means he tied a checked patterned shirt over his pants that he normally wears, like you see some Japanese idols wear sometimes.

Translation – Mina December 2014, Masuda Takahisa – “Massu Styling” Volume 3

We’re back with the third volume of Massu’s popular personal clothing series! This month’s theme is knits, giving us an image change from Massu.

Even though it’s only the third volume, I was given a knit theme. Impatiently, I was like “ah, I don’t have any knit items!” But all in all, I had some unexpectedly! LOL First of all, I brought a bunch of different kinds of knits. In three different ways I styled the same hat and pants combination. Which one do you guys like the most?

The knits are from these brands, from the top of the page down: Maison Martin Margiela, Sasquatchfabrix., and LABRAT.

The Margiela Knit is a shape that I normally don’t choose, but in the store I fell in love with it at first sight. Out of all the clothes that I have it’s the most “Honor’s student”-like. After seeing the picture taken of this on me, I thought I want to wear knit a lot more! For a date, this knit would be good. Yea.

When you first see the striped knit you might think it’s kinda gaudy looking, but I really like the shape of the turtleneck and dolman sleeve combination.

I think that the detail on Paisley knits is interesting. I would wear it casually when I go to meet with a friend.

To me, knit items aren’t as much as a daily item as sweat is, but wearing it all now like this was nice! Makes me want to wear knit more now. Also, the hat that I am wearing now I wore a long time ago on Music Station! It has a seasonal restriction, but every year I wear it tons. I wonder if anyone noticed??

Translation – Mina October 2014, Masuda Takahisa – “Massu Styling” Volume 1

This month’s theme is….. “Simple Monotone”

This is the first part of this series, and I have been put in charge of what I will wear! (LOL). A lot of people probably have an image of me wearing clothes that are kind of all over the place1, but I actually also like simple-like clothing, like the outfit with the hat on the left… but simple like items with simple like shape to them don’t match. What’s best is an item that is simple, but the size is big or it has something that reflects that person’s personality, right? Wearing a knit vest is difficult, so I paired it with the sweatshirt material shirt. But saying that, the knit vest has a rough texture and the arms are short sleeved, so I decided to buy it at first glance. Pairing it with RAF SIMONS pants was also nice I thought. The long sleeve t-shirt that is a different color and paring it with the short sleeve vest I think goes well together. On a day where you wear sweat material on the top and bottom, I like to wear something like leather boots with it, pairing it together one nice item; the hat that I am wearing now is also like that! It has the feeling of an outfit you would want to wear to go shopping around in, rather than an outfit that you would stroll around your neighborhood in.

On the right page is the check set-up2. I like that even though it is one item together, it isn’t boring. Layering the non-sleeve parka over it is normal for me. On a casual day when going out to eat a meal or something, I wear something like this a lot.

If girls wore monotone, a simple T-shirt with a scoop neck neckline is infatuating! (LOL) Pairing it with black skinny pants is ideal. Wearing monotone together on a date is perfectly okay. Wearing flower print together is kind of embarrassing though… (LOL)

So, next time I will also come prepared with lots of clothes as well!

*Translators Notes:

1. He means that people have the image of him wearing lots of patterns and colors together in one outfit, thus “all over the place clothing”

2. A set-up is an outfit that the top and the bottom are the same material and print and it is popular clothing for men and women here recently in Japan.
