Hi! My name is Lauren and welcome to life in Osaka, Japan.
Born and Raised in Orlando, Florida, after college I moved to Japan in 2012 to get my MBA with a dream of making a life here and working in a Japanese company. I graduated in 2014 from Doshisha University’s Global MBA program and began working for a Japanese company shortly after. Since then, I worked for 4 Japanese companies, mostly in Marketing, and in 2023 I received my permanent residency. From there, I quit my job and became freelance in the same year.

I don’t live a crazy life in Japan, but my goal is to share the knowledge I have obtained over the years I’ve lived here and create a community with similar interests. I write about Japanese pop culture, life in Japan, Anime, Manga, Books, Fashion and some tips about how to navigate building a life here.
Why “nihonchique”?
The name nihonchique is a combination of two words: Nihon means Japan in Japanese and chique, which comes from chic which means to be fashionable in French, or elegant and sophisticated.
I started this blog initially right before I studied abroad at Kansai Gaidai University in Osaka, Japan during my last year of college, though those original posts have long since been set to private. It began as a way to document my time in Japan and some thoughts, but today it has turned into more than that. This blog is about my experiences in life with loving and living in Japan, working at Japanese company, pop culture, fashion, Plants, Books, Japan tips and much more!

It been a while since I’ve dropped by your youtube vids. But I’m glad to I did today! I’m so glad you made a new blog at wordpress. Since I cannot really figure out LJ. LOL! I’ll be following and dropping by here often to read your experiences and blog your way to Japan. Good Luck in Japan and Happy Birthday!

thou I see that making Video blogs are more effective (and maybe more easy to reach many people) than written blogs, but also I know that it’s hard to explain and do everything in one video .. soo
GOOD luck in what you see is best *\(^^)/*

Lauren, by the way, influenced by the video you posted when you were with your parents in Florida, my wife and I tried “Everything But The Bagel” seasoning on avocado toast with a little olive oil. A sensational breakfast treat! Thanks for the idea. -Mike
